What Are Clear Aligners?
Clear aligners are transparent, removable trays custom-made to comfortably fit over your upper and lower teeth. They are made from a flexible, soft material that is much more comfortable than traditional metal braces or other dental appliances. You will replace your aligners regularly to progress forward with your treatment. The trays apply gradual pressure to your teeth, gently moving them into the desired position. Your aligners must be worn for 22 hours per day and can be removed to play sports or exercise, eat, or complete your oral hygiene routine.

- Fitting and Fabrication – Ahrens will take dental x-rays and impressions to fit you for your dental aligners. He will use specialized software to create your treatment plan. Our Simply SouthShore aligners are custom-designed for you in-house using digital scanning and 3D printing technology.
- Treatment – You will wear each set of aligners for one to two weeks before switching to a new set. Each time you switch to a new set, you will be progressing forward with your treatment. Treatment may take between 12-18 months.
- Check-Ins – You will visit our office regularly for check-ins to see how you are progressing with your treatment. Most people start to see results in six weeks.
- Removal and Post-Treatment Care – If you wear your aligners as recommended and progress through your treatment plan on schedule, you should see consistent treatment results. When your teeth have been corrected as much as possible, you will no longer need to wear your aligners. Dr. Ahrens may fit you for a retainer, which you should wear while you sleep to maintain your results. You should also follow all instructions for post-treatment care.
